Well it happened. I never understood why some people have nick named the treadmill the "dreadmill." Unfortunately, now I understand. When I started running a couple months ago I started on the treadmill. I liked it. Alot. Well as much as I could like running. Well a few weeks ago I started running outside. Then I went back to the gym to run on the treadmill. Literally Could. not. do. it. Bahhhhhh what is wrong with me? I ran 10 minutes and then stopped because I was so damn bored. Like out of my mind bored. So I went onto the elliptical and enjoyed myself a little more.
But seriously...WTF? What should I do? It is SO much more convenient for me to run at the gym because they have a day care for the little man (which he loves). I also can cool down on the elliptical which really helps my leg muscles for some reason.
But now I feel like this on a treadmill:
I need some advice. It is hard for me to get my runs in outside (as much as I enjoy it). My jogging stroller has two flat tires, so I have to either wait until the hubs gets home or find a babysitter. And I really don't like running with the jogging stroller anyways. It's nice to have some "me" time to think.
How can I reconnect with the treadmill?
Ehh...I totally zone on the treadmill. I put on my music and just jam out to that and focus on the songs...it helps the time go by. But I also have my treadmill sitting in front of our tv with netflix :D that can help, too.
ReplyDelete? For you - when you ran outside for the first time after treadmill running, was it more difficult? Breathing wise and how your legs felt?
Running outside did NOT feel more difficult but I think that was because I was enjoying it much more-and yes I'm going to work on zoning out more and ignoring the time!
DeleteJust read your jedi mind trick post and I loved it!
OMG! I feel you pain!! I HATE HATE HATE running on the dredmill! I just started running about 8 months ago and did it on the tredmill for about a week and quit started running outside and LOVED it!
ReplyDeleteHate that its becoming winter but I'm going to suck it up and bundle up real good just so I can keep running outside!
YES I'm totally going to be bundling up too for running this winter! :) Thanks for the comment girl!
DeleteI have the same problem. But I started out by running outside and now when I try to run on a treadmill I HATE it. I to get bored and end up just stopping. If I want to run outside I have to get up really early and go before anyone wakes up, which I do love when I actually get myself out of bed, it always makes for a great day, but getting up to run by six is just hard. But the treadmill sucks. When you figure out the solution please let me know. =)
ReplyDeleteI wish there was a solution but I guess it is just to not be a p***sy and just do it! :) Thanks for the comment. :)
DeleteI am right there with all of you! I completed the Couch to 5k program on the treadmill. It was a long time after I started running before I was confident enough to venture outside. It was harder for me to run outside at first but now I absolutely love it. I also have a jogging stroller but I hate running with it and prefer to have my runs be my "me" time too. I have to run when my husband can watch the toddler or I have to run on the dreadmill. It's super boring. :(
ReplyDeleteBORING is right! Ahh someday our kids will be old enough and they can run with us or just stay at home!
DeleteI have to run on the Dreadmill during the week....here are a couple of tips that get me thorugh:
ReplyDelete*podcasts....I love music but it gets kinda old. I love the another mother runner ones. I downloaded some comedy ones, but at one point between laughing and running I almost choked.....
*I cover the display with a towel...kinda out of sight out of mind
Going to do the towel thing! I will have to check out some pod casts. Thanks!
DeleteThe dreadmill!!.... Ahh!! I know the feeling all, too well. I have stopped going for distance and just focus on keeping my heart rate pumping.
ReplyDeleteI like to walk on a really high incline like an 8.0 for a solid 10 minutes. Just burns the back of my legs. Then I also like to walk 2 minutes, jog 2 minutes, and sprint 1.
Hang in there... We are getting skinnier!!
10 miles!!! WOAH! I can only dream about running 10 miles! lol. But, I just started running. I use the treadmill because there is no way my neighbors are getting a glimpse of everything on me jiggling!! I can't stand the treadmill! Not only boring, but it kills me knees! I'm not sure where to go from here either! Like you, it's hard for me to find someone to watch my kiddos, and hubs is a ff and works 24 hours shifts....AHH!! I hope you find a solution!!
ReplyDeleteGood up beat music keeps me going!
ReplyDeleteDo some interval training to mix it up, do 1 minute fast and then 1 minute easy or 1 minute uphill 1 minute easy etc
Yes, gotta do interval training. Going to start that up after my 5k in less than 2 weeks! :)
